Mending the Soul

New City wants to support those who are dealing with past abuse and trauma experiences. There is healing through Christ for all of our pain and hurts. For this reason we have partnered with Mending the Soul (MTS) to help support abuse survivors on their journey toward healing.

Mending the Soul (MTS) is a curriculum that is Bible based and created by counselors and pastors who are very familiar with abuse and trauma recovery. It is done in a group setting with a lay-facilitator who has spent time working through their own abuse issues. In the groups there will be about 4-7 others of the same gender who have also been deeply wounded by events or relationships. The groups last only a few months, usually meeting once a week, and require a commitment from participants to be consistent in attendance.

In the group, survivors learn that they are not alone in their pain and that there is hope for emotional wholeness. The group asks us to be honest about the things that happened so that we can receive the healing that Christ offers. Through our honesty we learn to battle shame, isolation and deadness; and we explore the Bible for God’s love and His path for our recovery. The group ends by helping survivors find a path towards forgiveness while building up the heart of the survivor to establish and maintain their own healthy relationships. Participating in a Mending the Soul group is an emotional experience that is challenging but for those seeking a fresh start and a vocabulary for healing this is a rewarding endeavor.

New City has no sponsored Mending the Soul groups at this time but we have a few facilitators that attend our Church who offer groups at their convenience. We would be happy to put you in contact with them and in the case that their current group is full, they can also assist you in finding another group. We encourage you to seek the healing that Christ brings, your past may have been traumatic but the there is hope in a future of peace and rest. Psalms 57:1-5.
