Learn a little bit about our leaders
The leaders at New City are passionate about intersecting the message of Christ with the people of Phoenix, using their time and talent in meaningful ways as they go about life beyond the church. Our team believes in serving Jesus in all of life.
Consistent with 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, New City Church has a team of overseers (also known as “elders”) who provide accountability and oversight of the church. New City is led by the staff team day-to-day, but the Oversight Team meets several times during the year to review the financial standing and pastoral health of the church. Our Oversight Team approves the annual budget, makes all major financial decisions and provides assistance with staff oversight when needed. The current members of the Oversight Team are Rawleigh Grove, Brian Kruckenberg, Brent Storms, Derek Turner, and Jose Vidal.
Brian has been married to his wife, Gina, since 1999 and is a proud father of three. Valley residents since 2005, Brian and Gina love living in urban Phoenix. Brian and Gina, along with a handful of friends, began the initial planning for what would become New City Church in 2010, and the church held its first public service as New City on February 27, 2011. Brian’s driving passion is to make God known through leading a church that loves God, loves others, and makes disciples who live out their faith in the places they live, work, study and play. Before his life as a pastor, Brian practiced law as an e-Commerce Attorney at Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP in Kansas City. Later he worked as Corporate Counsel for Sprint Corporation, before leaving the full-time practice of law for the role of Family Pastor at his local church in Kansas City. Since making a career transition in 2004, Brian has earned a Doctorate in Ministry (D.Min.) from Bethel Seminary. Brian also holds bachelor’s (B.A.) and master’s (M.A.) degrees in Communication.
Toni’s role is to oversee all things kid related - from the newest additions through the 5th grade. She has a passion to see kids grow in to their own relationship with God. Toni is a Phoenix native, married to her high school sweetheart, Nathan, and has two amazing sons, Skyler and Tegan. Her noteworthy skills include the ability to hula hoop on one foot, juggle fire, and concocting fake skills.
As the Executive Pastor, Steve guides the staff day-to-day to ensure their ministries are working together to fulfill the mission that God has given us. Before becoming a pastor in 2001, he worked as an engineering manager in the semiconductor industry. Steve earned his M.Div at Phoenix Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry at Talbot School of Theology. When he is not at work, you will find him playing games, swimming, coaching sports, watching TV/movies, or just hanging out with his wife Kirstie and their three amazing kids, Elsa, Ethan, and Everly.
Casey loves working with teenagers and helping them find purpose in the world today. Before joining New City as our Student Ministries Pastor, he attended Colorado Christian University and worked at Red Rocks Church. He and his wife, Drew, are from Denver. When they aren’t watching The Office together, Casey likes going to coffee shops and golfing!
PASTOR OF CONNECTION & ASSIMILATION
As our pastor of connection and assimilation, Amy coordinates our Sunday experience and special events, as well as makes everyone feel welcome at New City! She recently moved to Phoenix from California, where she worked in family ministry. She has a BA in Spanish and a master’s degree in counseling. Amy and her husband, Jonathan, have 3 kids and are also foster parents. They love camping and hanging out with their chickens and goats!
JUSTICE AND CARE PASTOR
Shaun leads the justice and care ministry at New City. He’s passionate about restorative justice, as well as local and global missions. He has his undergraduate degree in biblical studies and preaching, and his master’s degree in strategic ministry. Shaun was born and raised in Georgia, but he met his wife Ashley in Phoenix and has been here ever since! They have two little girls, Haven and Harlow, and like to find new restaurants and explore together.
NEW CITY STUDIO
Steven’s role is to connect college aged students to the broader church through people and programs at New City. Prior to coming on staff, he was a faithful volunteer for many years. He is married to an amazing woman, Brooke. They can be found hiking, trying new restaurants, and cheering on the Lakers (boo, Go Suns!).
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Daireth’s mission is to use the gifts God has given her to provide administrative oversight to the staff, so that they can focus their time and energy on serving our community. Daireth and her husband, Matt, have four daughters, Katy, Maddy, Irelynn & Tatum. She graduated from Oklahoma State University and is an avid sports fan.
Suzy has called New City home since 2015, and currently leads us in worship through creativity and song. Prior to leading worship, she was in the top 32 on American Idol, season three! She has been married to her husband Luke since 2007 and together they have three beautiful children. Whether she’s ministering on the stage or in the daily grinds of motherhood, Suzy passionately asserts that all of life is for Jesus.
DIRECTOR OF WOMENS MINISTRY
As our women’s ministry leader, Gina creates amazing events that connect women to Jesus and each other. She’s originally from Colorado and has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. She’s been married to Brian since 1999, and she considers their three kids to be her greatest joy. When Gina isn’t planning fun social events or serving at Hope Women’s Center, she loves to do hot yoga, go hiking, listen to historical podcasts and hang out with her family (not necessarily in that order!).
Courtney assists in ministry communications and administrative support at New City. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in journalism. Courtney and her husband Ryan have one crazy toddler boy, Griffin. When she isn’t chasing him around, she loves writing, baking and hiking.
Jina’s role at New City is to administratively support the Lead Pastor, as well as internally manage the church finances. She is the wife of a talented photographer, Mike, and a happily exhausted mom of three active kids, Lyla, Eli, and Asher. She graduated from Arizona State University and likes writing, coffee, and subpar TV.
Melissa provides administrative support for various ministries at New City. She recently graduated from Grand Canyon University with a degree in graphic design and advertising. She’s a big fan of Jack Johnson, calligraphy, coffee shops and the color yellow.
