Learn a little bit about our leaders
The leaders at New City are passionate about intersecting the message of Christ with the people of Phoenix, using their time and talent in meaningful ways as they go about life beyond the church. Our team believes in serving Jesus in all of life.
Brian has been married to his wife, Gina, since 1999 and is a proud father of three. Valley residents since 2005, Brian and Gina love living in urban Phoenix. Brian and Gina, along with a handful of friends, began the initial planning for what would become New City Church in 2010, and the church held its first public service as New City on February 27, 2011. Brian’s driving passion is to make God known through leading a church that loves God, loves others, and makes disciples who live out their faith in the places they live, work, study and play. Before his life as a pastor, Brian practiced law as an e-Commerce Attorney at Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP in Kansas City. Later he worked as Corporate Counsel for Sprint Corporation, before leaving the full-time practice of law for the role of Family Pastor at his local church in Kansas City. Since making a career transition in 2004, Brian has earned a Doctorate in Ministry (D.Min.) from Bethel Seminary. Brian also holds bachelor’s (B.A.) and master’s (M.A.) degrees in Communication.
DIRECTOR OF THE ARTS
Giovanni oversees the artistic identity of the church as well as creates memorable worship experiences for all of our services and events. In his spare time, you can catch him at Pomo Pizzeria or playing video games with the boys.
PASTOR OF COMMUNITY GROUPS AND ADULT DISCIPLESHIP
Nate guides people through our discipleship experience by way of small groups, large group classes and various adult ministries. He is especially passionate about the internal transformation within the life of a follower of Jesus. Nate has his Master’s of Divinity (M.Div) from Phoenix Seminary. He and his wife, Alyssa, have two little boys. They love living in the city and being active outside.
DIRECTOR OF CONNECTION
Mike’s role at New City is to connect people to the church and to each other. His heart is to help propel people in their faith and see them flourish in every aspect of life. Mike is married to the love of his life, Jessica. He earned his B.S. in Christian Ministry with an influence in Counseling from Arizona Christian University and Moody Bible Institute.
PASTOR OF STUDENT MINISTRIES
Kendall wants to see middle and high school students flourish in their relationship with God and others. He lives to make known the love of Jesus in an engaging and authentic way. He grew up in Iowa and then moved to Phoenix to attend Arizona State University. He has a degree in criminal justice and is currently working toward his Master of Arts in Missional Theology. He enjoys watching movies and biking around the valley.
PASTOR OF NEW CITY KIDS
Toni’s role is to oversee all things kid related - from the newest additions through the 4th grade. She has a passion to see kids grow in to their own relationship with God. Toni is a Phoenix native, married to her high school sweetheart, Nathan, and has two amazing teenage boys, Skyler and Tegan. Her noteworthy skills include the ability to hula hoop on one foot, juggle fire, and concocting fake skills.
As the Executive Pastor, Steve guides the staff day-to-day to ensure their ministries are working together to fulfill the mission that God has given us. Before becoming a pastor in 2001, he worked as an engineering manager in the semiconductor industry. Steve earned his M.Div at Phoenix Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry at Talbot School of Theology. When he is not at work, you will find him playing games, swimming, coaching sports, watching TV/movies, or just hanging out with his wife Kirstie and their three amazing kids, Elsa, Ethan, and Everly.
DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE MINISTRY
Steven’s role is to connect college aged students to the broader church through people and programs at New City. Prior to coming on staff, he was a faithful volunteer for many years. He is married to an amazing woman, Brooke. They can be found hiking, trying new restaurants, and cheering on the Lakers (boo, Go Suns!).
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Daireth’s mission is to use the gifts God has given her to provide administrative oversight to the staff, so that they can focus their time and energy on serving our community. Daireth and her husband, Matt, have four daughters, Katy, Maddy, Irelynn & Tatum. She graduated from Oklahoma State University and is an avid sports fan.
Courtney assists in ministry communications and administrative support at New City. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in journalism. Courtney and her husband Ryan have one crazy toddler boy, Griffin. When she isn’t chasing him around, she loves writing, baking and hiking.
Jina’s role at New City is to administratively support the Lead Pastor, as well as internally manage the church finances. She is the wife of a talented photographer, Mike, and a happily exhausted mom of three active kids, Lyla, Eli, and Asher. She graduated from Arizona State University and likes writing, coffee, and subpar TV.
CREATIVE / COMMUNICATION DIRECTOR
Danny leads our creative direction and strategic communications at New City, in alignment with our mission and vision. Before joining our team, he was a Host team volunteer and active in our small group community. He has a bachelor’s degree in marketing and entrepreneurial studies, as well as a master’s degree in business. He loves coffee, the outdoors and his dog, Duke!
Melissa provides administrative support for various ministries at New City. She recently graduated from Grand Canyon University with a degree in graphic design and advertising. She’s a big fan of Jack Johnson, calligraphy, coffee shops and the color yellow.
